On or before the first day of March A. D. one thousand eight hundred and forty five for value received we or either of us promise to pay John C. Walsh or order the sum of Five hundred dollars with six per cent interest per annum
In his 9 February 1843 letter to Richard M. Young, JS indicated that Elias Higbee’s signature would be on the “obligations.” Because the signatures were removed when the notes were canceled, it is unknown if Higbee signed them. It is also possible that Edward Hunter signed the notes. (Letter to Richard M. Young, 9 Feb. 1843.)
